New Years Eve at Karon Beach, Phuket, Thailand

What can you do for new years eve at Karon Beach in Phuket? You have options! Free family fun on the beach, or dining packages at beach clubs, or restaurants and bars. I had a great time on the beach, entertainment with music, dancing, fireworks, floating lanterns, and more fireworks.

What to do in Karon Beach Phuket for New Years Eve?

At Karon Beach, Phuket, Thailand for New Years Eve you have options:

  • free entertainment on the beach with varied live music and DJs,  dancing,  food, lots and lots of street food, and fireworks (for hours) and floating lanterns
  • beach clubs and resorts have New Years Eve dining packages
  • the many bars and restaurants are all open, with good food, smiles and live music entertainment

What do you like to do for New Years Eve?

I was at Karon Beach to see in the new year for 2024 and I loved it so much that I went back again to see the new year 2025 arrive.

Karon beach was much busier in 2025, many, many more people and the beach was absolutely packed. However, the crowd was a peaceful happy crowd. A wonderful mix of locals and tourists, family’s, people of all ages, people from many countries all around the world coming together to celebrate, to look forward to a new year, and smile.

Is there free entertainment at Karon Beach for New Years Eve?

Yes, there is free entertainment at Karon Beach, Phuket for New Years Eve. Karon village has  stages, central and at the ends of Karon beach; its a very long 4km beach. The stages have music entertainment with live bands, traditional dance, and DJ’s, with a big dance floor out the front of the stage for lots of dancing fun for everyone.

Surrounding the stage, there are new years light up balloons, light displays, fun things to explore to celebrate.

At central Karon, celebrations started on 30/12/2024, so two days of music, dancing, and entertainment.

Are there fireworks at Karon Beach for New Years Eve?

The town of Karon put on fireworks, at a few places along the long beach, with very big spectacular displays at midnight. Additionally, many resorts, and locals, and tourists, have random fireworks going all over the area and beach from sunset at about 6:30pm until 2-3 am, so, there is about 8 hours of fireworks! It is absolutely amazing.

Can you launch a floating lantern at Karon Beach for New Years Eve?

Yes, you can launch a floating lantern at Karon Beach in Phuket for New Years Eve.  I have seen signs at Patong beach saying they are not allowed. However, no such signage at Karon. You can purchase a lantern on the streets in the days leading up to new years eve, and on the beach during new years eve.  The people selling them will help you light it and get it going, they are very supportive.  They are really big lanterns, two people are required to hold them before they are hot enough to float off.

Do the beach clubs and resorts at Karon Beach celebrate New Years Eve?

Yes they do, I saw many adverts for dining and entertainment packages at Beach Clubs, resorts and restaurants at Karon Beach. They do look a little pricy, but then I am not a big eater nor drinker, so I would not get value from it. It depends on what you want, and what suits you best.  I did not attend any of them, I enjoy roaming on new years, I like to walk around outdoors, check out multiple venues, dance, listen to music, and I love being on the beach.

Is it safe at Karon Beach for New Years Eve?

I have been at Karon Beach Phuket for two New Years Eves now, 2024 and 2025, both as a solo female.  I have felt safe walking around the beach, streets, hanging out at the entertainment areas, dancing, browsing food stalls and watching fireworks on the beach.  People are friendly, family friendly, and seem to be just there to have wholesome fun and a nice time.

On the beach for 2025 new years eve, it was much busier than 2024, the crowd was huge and I did worry about that massive amount of people being alone, in terms of possibly being knocked over, or tripping, not being able to move and push my way through that amount of people if I need to move somewhere.  Being solo, no one is there to watch your back or keep you extra safe, or push or pull through a crowd.

In a large massive crowd like that, keep to the edge, keep your belongings safe and zipped up, keep your steady footing and have an exit plan. With a plan, and staying alert, you can then have fun!
